Elvaston Castle is located in Elvaston, Derbyshire in England.
The castle was built in 1633 for Sir John. During the 1830′s an architect named Lewis Nockalls Cottingham made some modifications.
William Stanhope sold the Elvaston estate in 1969 following the Countryside Act in 1968.
In 1970 the estate was opened up to the public. Ever since then the castle has operated under the name of Elvaston Castle Country Park.

The ghost of a Grey Lady has been seen looking out of a window whilst seeming to be sat on an invisible rocking chair, rocking gently back and forth.
The ghost of a scullery maid has been seen rushing around in the kitchen of the castle. It is thought the maid committed suicide after falling pregnant with one of the Earls Friends.
